Bond No. 9 perfume has released another wonderful perfume, a tribute to a famous New York neighborhood. In his heyday, no other place in New York was more famous than Astor Place, the enclave that stretches between Broadway and the Third Avenue, and suspended between the Fourteenth and Houston Street.
Astor Place, the fragrance, is a fresh spring floral that begins with a bold and seductive combination of freesia leaf, poppy seed, and purple, and then drops down to a note of teakwood and musk. The design of the surface of the bottle echoes the Astor Place cube corners and geometric sculptures of black glass that defy gravity by Tony Rosenthal, informally known as "the Cube". The golden background pays tribute to Astor fortune and philanthropy.

Fragrances follow fashion... so when, earlier this year, the three blocks of Bleecker Street along Abingdon Square have become a sought-after design workshop, Bond No.9 promptly sought the challenge creating its full newyorkais twenty-fourth parfum, Bleecker, an unisex and contemporary eau de parfum that perfectly captures the dynamics of this tree-lined promenade to be devoted to shopping.
Like designer clothes now on sale at the best boutiques of Bleecker Street, Bleecker expresses extremely topicality. Vanguard of new families of scents, this wild oriental fragrance is composed of vanilla (a tribute to the Magnolia Bakery next door) essential ingredient of the dough pastry also known for its aphrodisiac powers; from the last edible notes - cassis, caramel, cinnamon and thyme; from aromatic woods prolonging the delicate flavors; from moss, to give warmth and sensuality and from patchouli, another legendary aphrodisiac paid like gin to balance the mix of sweet aromas. The result? A slight fragrance for day but also evening with hints of sweet seduction.
The bottle of Bleecker is a blend of art and fashion that reflects the history of a neighborhood favored by artists who is now the new emerging mecca for style. For the design we turned to Rachel Katz, a young fashion designer and watercolorist, to combine the charm of Bleecker Street to the history of Greenwich Village, from always tied to the world of art.
His interpretation? Dress the superstar bottle of Bond No.9 whith the hand-painted ground that she created for some clothes, interwoven arches that recall great dimensions, the gold filigree of the icon symbol of New York City. The dark magenta of the bottle, paired with red ruby, light green, green lime and pale, without a doubt the most vibrant colors of the collection of Bond No.9, reflect the tone of this fall fashion.

What is the most dynamic, the most exuberant, the most fragrant, the most colorful, the most rapidly expanding district in all New York? The answer is Chinatown - the new Chinatown, suffused with the energy of the emerging superpower and the avant-gardistic footprint of the downtown of New York (in case you had not noticed, Chinatown merges at its borders with Soho, Little Italy and the lowest part of the East Side).
Of course Bond No.9 (always ready to perceive the nuances that characterize a district) has captured the essence of this part of pulsating energy in Lower Manhattan freeing it in his last New York-centric fragrance, and called it as it could not be otherwise, with the name of Chinatown.
What contain this dynamic and seductive perfume? The top note is a cascade of cherry blossoms - a mystic fruit in Chinese mythology that Taoists consider the elixir of life. The heart notes are a provocative bouquet that brings together so many cross-cultural influences: the peony (known as Sho Yo, or "the most beautiful", the flower that symbolizes love, luxury and pleasure in Chinese culture), mixed with the sweet fragrance of gardenia (the flower that Billie Holiday loved to wear in their hair) and the sultry tuberose (known in the West as the Lady of the Night), and finally the patchouli, which adds a pungent note to the flourish ones. The persistent base notes are cardamom (an ancient oriental spice, long used in cooking as a condiment) and dark woods (recalling the scent of the Chinese boxes with lacquered inlays).
Bond No.9 Chinatown continues the long tradition of so-called oriental perfumes that dominated the 20th century. But this is innovative - it is the first to add to the mix the aesthetic of New York.
Irresistibly lush, as it is the scent itself, is the bottle of Chinatown - the superstar bottle of Bond No.9, decorated in the round with plum blossoms just as you might find them on a woven satin cheongsam.
This design in particular draws its inspiration from a porcelain ginger jar dating back to the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), when Chinese art reached unsurpassed heights. In Chinese mythology, the plum blossom is the first sign of impending spring that sweeps away the rigors of winter - the time of romantic love and waking up. On a side of the bottle flowers are the color of iridescent pearl on a deep fuchsia background. But turn it the other side and, in yin-yang style, you will discover the same decor but with reversed colors. And in the bottom, you'll find another small sign of cultural transversality yin-yang: the symbol of Bond No.9 New York. This vintage-contemporary design reflects the spirit of modern Chinatown, which remains anchored to the tradition in the maze of streets in the center, while the periphery is filled with cutting-edge restaurants and trendy boutiques.

When darkness falls, Noho lights up. This stretch of roads is the cultural magnet of downtown. The Public Theatre has home here. And the Astor Place Theatre and the Amato Opera Company. Don't forget the restaurants and nightclubs (Noho Star, Joes Pub, Pangaea). And in this enclave where the energetic insomnia is a way of life, there are a couple of Noho institutions that remain open all night long: Tower Records, lying on a building as large as three warehouses and Crunch, the fitness club, where gymnasts, acrobats and jugglers come to train at 3 am. But it is a pinch of lasting patchouli, that like a shot of vodka or gin, gives Nuits de Noho an ironic and sexy urbanity.
