The Legend of Charon
The name Caron is the legend of
perfume. This legend was born from the encounter of two talents: him, undisputed
master of the universe of fragrances, her, woman of talent and ambition. It all
started over a century ago....
In 1904, an expert on perfumes, a
nose according to the expression consecrated in the world of fragrances, begins
to realize his creations: Ernest Daltroff is a dreamer of perfumes who creates
floral symphonies and fragrance escapes, seeking in each his new fragrance,
taste and elegance.
Since the first creations Ernest
Daltroff defines the Caron style: not perfumes that stuns, but classy fragrances
and, above all, the right mix of natural and synthetic products, the balance
that gives the aroma its personality and perfection.
It’s in 1910, shortly after being
installed in the Rue de la Paix, that Ernest Daltroff meets a personality of
Parisian fashion, Madame Felice Bergaud, which become will from now on, the
creator of the famous bottles and the famous look of Caron perfumes.
This meeting, that marks the
beginning of a great passion, will characterize all the history of Caron.
In the 50’s the two great figures
at the origin of Parfums Caron leave the scene, but their impression of elegance
and style will remain alive in the work of successors that develops in the
decades that follow.
Narcisse Noir was created in 1911,
followed in 1922 by Nuit de Noel and Bellodgia in 1927, one of the most
successful fragrance of Caron.
In 1933 Caron delights its
consumers with what will prove to be its most successful creation, Fleurs de
Rocaille, considered one of the biggest fragrance in the history of French
perfumery of this century.
In 1952 came to light another very
big success signed Caron: it is Muguet de Bonheur, the famous "Lily of the
Valley" perfume symbol of the '50s and '60s.
But Caron is not solely dedicated
to the creation of women's fragrances.
In 1934 Pour un Homme was born: in
a historically important and in a completely unknown male fragrance market, Pour
un Homme became an immediate success.
In 1941, Royal Bain de Champagne
was born while the 1970 saw the birth of Infinity.
After many years of research and
studies, in 1976 a
new fragrance for men makes again talk of the Maison Caron: it is Yatagan, with
a warm and sensual aroma, an exotic name, intriguing and mysterious. This
fragrance with woody notes doesn’t immediately receive the acclaim of the French
public, accustomed to the more delicate flavors, but immediately wins the custom
of other Mediterranean countries.
The 80’s are the ones of
rediscovery of the luxury, of returning to tradition and the great romantic
perfume: Caron Parfums first perceives this turnaround.
Caron is the first boutique opened
in
Paris in March 1982 at 34 Avenue Montaigne.
Baccarat crystal, Carrara marbles and drapes of Saint-Gall, help to create a
unique setting for luxury and elegance, the only one where you can choose a
scent directly to the crystal fountains of Louis XVI, buy it at once.
The success of this - truly unique
– boutique takes to the opening of other prestigious boutiques Montaigne in
American Department Stores: Bloomingdale's in New York, Dallas, Miami, San Francisco,
Chicago, Los Angeles, Toronto,
London, Melbourne.
Feeling the need to return to the
tradition, in 1981 Caron creates Nocturnes, a seductive fragrance that recalls
the Belle Epoque with its follies, its extravagance and its refinement, a
fragrance for the modern woman who has kept a romantic mood.
In 1991 the Maison Parfumée repeats
an old success of 1949 in
limited production, a modern reworking of the composition of Or et Noir to
present it to the woman of the twentieth century with the name of Parfum Sacré.
In 1993 Fleur de Rocaille is
created, inspired by the original of 1933 to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of
this classic. Finally in 1995, Caron gives birth to its first Eau de Cologne,
whose presentation is the successful synthesis of some old Parisian fragrance
house. |
