Amouage is the prestigious maison from Oman for luxury fragrances, that was created when, in 1983, the Sultanate of Oman decided to officially restore the ancient Arab perfumery culture, once glorious and incomparable, then lapsed and forgotten. Since ancient times, in fact, the fabled land of Oman fed legends for extraordinary incense and exotic perfumes that were born in it. And it was thanks to Amouage that, basing on the combination of the modern French capabilities with Arab traditions and raw materials, as His Majesty the last Sayyid Hamad bin Hamoud al-bu Said said, "Saudi has finally returned to produce luxury fragrances".
Amouage, term purely conceptual with a French sound, is derived from the Arabic expression "Amway" (waves) with the French "amour" (love) in order to suggest the context of brand image: the "waves of emotion".
However creating a stylish and exciting scent has always been an art, a rare combination of talent and pure skill. Art that undoubtedly belongs to the creators of Amouage, who have always used unique ingredients come from various parts of the world to create unforgettable fragrances. These ingredients (over 120, and very secret) have enabled the French Master Perfumer Guy Robert to create the classic Amouage, the most valuable perfume in the world, as well as his own symphony.
These are the features that have made every essence, every creation Amouage, a true masterpiece.
Once, the Perfume was a unique gift that the man turned to the sky to ingratiate himself with the will of ancient deities.
More precious than gold, liquid, powerful and mysterious magic, the Perfume, also called per-fumum, has always accompanied the history of human beings.
In the past, its most sublime expression took the name of Attar and collected all the most precious essences of the Ancient East.
The word "Attar" comes from the Urdu language and means "Divine Fragrance", a definition which emphasizes the magician power of its wake. In ancient times it also took the name of "Ittar" which in Arabic means "Heavenly Fragrance".
According to an ancient legend, the birth of the Attar is attributable to an accidental event. One day, the Persian Queen Nour-Dijhan, while was walking among the streams of the imperial garden, noticed a veil of grease floating on the water just at the point where thousands of roses had fallen. After having collected a few drops of that golden liquid with a peacock feather and having smelled it, the queen was enchanted by a scent that she called heavenly. Due to the heavy fall there had been a natural process of distillation that had brought to the surface the essence of the rose and gave birth to the first Attar of Rose.
Though this is its legend, the story tells that it was born in India around the third century BC and soon spread throughout the Middle East, winning the East.
The Attar is completely alcohol free and comes in an oily substance composed only by the smelling soul extracted from natural raw materials, according to ancient procedures of processing.
Just like an old oriental saying says, "Only in the tears of an Attar you can touch the beauty of Nature."
