The spirit of William Penhaligon, our founder, touches everything we do. A British man who lived in an era of excess and ostentation, William was funny, wildly creative and always inspired by the singular.
Hammam Bouquet, our first perfume, was invented by William in 1872 after inhaling the fumes and the scent of sulfur baths of his neighbor. These were wild ideas for wild times, and it’s the way we still work today. The inspiration comes in the strangest times and places: a magic moment, stolen from a panorama, an idea crystallized.
135 years passed since the doors of Penhaligon's barber were opened in Jermyn Street, the invaluable archives of William continue to inspire and inform everything we do. Our passion is to build on his incredible legacy of creative and innovative perfumes, defying the traditions of art and look for new ways to interpret elegance.
