It’s in the early twentieth century that Eugenio Marinella lays the foundation for what would become one of the most amazing “success stories" from Naples.
In 1914, at the eve of World War I, Eugene decided, showing an undeniable amount of courage and initiative, to open shop in Victoria Square on the fashionable Riviera di Chiaia in Naples, at that time as now, one of the most beautiful promenade of Italy . The location turned out to be strategic for a little shop of only 20 square meters in front of which paced the Neapolitan high society. After having done the renovations and bought the two workshops, one very large for the manufacture of shirts and a smaller one, for neckties, Don Eugene, undertook his first trip to London, to meet with prospective suppliers... The shop becomes soon a small treasure chest where you can find real treasures of refinement and taste, a little corner of England in Naples.
In an age when "English" style is very fashionable, Marinella is the only one to propose, in Naples, a wide range of exclusive products from London, requiring exclusivity by England suppliers. Initially, the main business of the shop is not the tie but the shirt, queen of the men’s wardrobe. To be on top of fashion and quality, Eugene led certain craftsmen shirtmakers unparalleled level to move from Paris to teach to his workers the art of cutting.
It's only long after it appeared the current tie with the internal structure. The store has gone through important historical events that have also changed the course of its history: the two world wars, the decline of the aristocracy and the emergence of the new bourgeoisie with the advent of American products that bring substantial changes in fashion. Very attentive to developments in society and customs, Eugenio does not lose heart and stops the production of shirts for the tie that becomes the flagship product of Marinella home.
True recovery occurs in the eighties, when Francesco Cossiga, President of the Republic and family friend, becomes a true brand ambassador taking the habit to bring gifts to heads of state in their official visits, a box containing five Marinella ties. The brand begins to go round the world. The G7 organized in Naples in 1994 finally opens to the small Neapolitan brand the very exclusive circle of the biggest of the worlds’ supplies: the organizers decide to offer to all heads of state present, a box containing six Marinella ties, carrying an enormous publicity for the brand.
The passion for elegance and quality continues today thanks to Maurizio Marinella, the third generation of his family, who collected the heritage of the brand with an entrepreneurial spirit in tune with the modern laws of marketing managed to establish the brand E. Marinella abroad, from the United States to Japan. The production signed E. Marinella has kept the scrupulous attention to the quality of raw materials and the well-bill still strictly handmade for these ties "True Neapolitan" and "very British".
